It was a normal day in early November. I had just returned home from school and found that my mom had made my favorite cookies, oatmeal chocolate chip. After devouring these delicious cookies, I walked towards the kitchen to put my plastic orange cup back on the counter. Suddenly I noticed a huge, round, brown spider right in the middle of the floor across from the counter. The spider was so big that I didn’t even think it was real at first. I just thought to myself , “We must have missed this guy when we put away the Halloween decorations last week or maybe my brother is just playing a trick on me.” I slowly bent down to pick up the spider and just before I could lay a finger on it, it actually moved!! I couldn’t believe that was a real spider!! I was so frightened that I quickly threw my cup on the counter, bolted right out of the kitchen and ran into the family room where my mom was watching TV. “Mom,” I said “There’s a really big spider in the kitchen!” “Colleen, then get it!” My mom replied. Out of the three kids in our house, I was usually the brave one when it came to getting rid of bugs. But this spider was a different story! “But mom, it’s huge!” I replied “Oh alright!” My mom replied and followed me into the kitchen.
When I pointed out the spider to my mom, she knew I wasn’t kidding around when I said it was huge. “Oh gosh” she said “Keep an eye on it while I get something from the garage.” My siblings then ran into the kitchen wondering what was going on and freaked out as soon as they saw the spider. My mom then returned to the kitchen carrying a light green bucket. “What are you going to do with that?” My brother asked. “Well we need to trap it with something until dad comes home.” My mom replied and threw the bucket right over the spider. A few minutes later, my dad walked in through the garage to find the green bucket in the middle of the kitchen. “Hey gang, what’s this all about?” He asked “There’s a really big spider.” My sister replied. My dad just gave us a funny look, “Well why didn’t you get it? He asked. “Steve,” my mom sternly replied, “The thing is huge! I’m not getting it!” “Oh alright, I’ll get it.” My dad said. He then ran into the hall closet, wheeled out the vacuum cleaner, plugged it in, grabbed the hose, quickly threw the bucket to the side and sucked the spider right up! I was glad that it was finally gone and I haven’t seen a spider that big since!
